Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Walla Walla, WASH- The Walla Walla Sweets (23-19) took game three from the Gresham GreyWolves (21-21) 6-4. The win gave the Sweets a 2-1 series win.
The Sweets struck first in the bottom of the first inning. With the bases loaded and no one out, Nick Nyquist (Gonzaga) delivered a three-run triple into the gap in right-center field to give the Sweets the lead. He came in to score on a suicide squeeze, bunt base hit by Coby Kauhaahaa (Cal State Fullerton).
Gresham fought back with a run in the second and two in the third on a two-run home run to make it a 4-3 game.
Willie MacIver (Washington) answered by crushing a solo home run of his own in the bottom of the third.
With the Sweets leading by two, an unearned run scored on a double for the GreyWolves to make it 5-4.
That was where it stayed until the eighth, when Hunter Villanueva (Fresno Pacific) doubled home Ryan Johnston (UC Irvine) to give the Sweets some cushion.
Kyle Narahara (Cal State Monterey Bay) struck out the side in the ninth for his ninth save of the season.
AJ Carkner (Pikeville) picked up the win for the Sweets. He pitched three shutout innings out of the bullpen.
Walla Walla now heads to Victoria for a three game set with the HarbourCats. The Sweets will send Easton Lucas to the mound for game one tomorrow at 6:35 P.M.
