Sweets Take Game One vs Gresham Behind 17 Strikeouts

Walla Walla, WASH- The Walla Walla Sweets (22-18) downed the red-hot Gresham GreyWolves (20-20) 5-2 on Saturday evening. The loss for Gresham was only its fourth in the second half.

The Sweets struck first on an RBI double by Willie MacIver (Washington) in the third inning. He finished the day 3-3 with three RBIs.

The GreyWolves came back with a solo home run in the top of the fourth to tie it, but the Sweets took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by MacIver.

The Sweets padded the lead with three in the seventh. The first run came off of the bat of MacIver again with a sac fly. Nick Nyquist (Gonzaga) then hit a two-run home run to finish it off for Walla Walla.

The GreyWolves added a run in the ninth, but Billy Dimlow (Emory) recorded the nine out save.

Chris Murphy (San Diego) pitched six innings, only giving one run on three hits and striking out 12. That was a season high for any Sweets' pitcher in strike outs.

The Sweets will send Nick Scheidler to the mound for the second game of the series. The Sweets are only 5-8 in game two's this season, but they will try to go for the series win tomorrow at 5:05 P.M.
