Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Top of the Order: The RailRiders continue a three-game series against Lehigh Valley at PNC Field tonight. The club is two games under .500 after 36 games this season after a walk-off win last night. At the 35-game mark in 2017, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was only three games over .500 en route to an 86-55 record and a playoff berth. Lehigh Valley leads the 2018 edition of the IronRail Series 4-3.
Terrible Twos: Early this month, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and New Orleans Baby Cakes began the "Battle of the Bambinos." The Baby Cakes are the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play in the Pacific Coast League. The RailRiders, long known as the "Baby Bombers" due to their affiliate with the club in the Bronx, and Baby Cakes have engaged on several fronts, including a social media hashtag battle and a diaper drive. The RailRiders diaper drive benefits the baby pantry at St. Joseph's Center in Scranton. There are some high stakes in play as well.
Who's Next? In addition to Gleyber Torres making his Major League debut on April 23, the RailRiders have had seven other players promoted to the Yankees roster: Luis Cessa, Clint Frazier, Domingo German, David Hale, Jonathan Holder, Jace Peterson and Shane Robinson. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has also had three players join the roster on Major League rehabilitation assignments. Aaron Hicks played twice before returning to New York, while both Brandon Drury and Frazier had rehabbed with the RailRiders before being optioned.
Cleaning Up: The full slate of Legends Series appearances is set with the final appearance to be officially announced this week. Tim Raines gets the 2018 Legends Series started on June 9 and will be followed by Jose Canseco on June 19. Rickey Henderson will appear on June 30 and John Wetteland will be at PNC Field on July 13. John Flaherty's appearance is scheduled for August 3 and Andre Dawson caps the series on August 18.
Five Spot: The SWB Pinstripes Foundation has started a Text-to-Donate campaign to benefit Stand Up To Cancer. 13 other Minor League clubs are participating in this campaign, which raises $5.00 for every text of SWBRR to the number 40202.
Short Stop: After this homestand concludes with a Dinosaur School Day game on May 17, the RailRiders are out of town until May 25, when they return to Moosic for a four-game homestand over Memorial Day weekend against the Syracuse Chiefs.
Out of Left Field: Aaron Judge's rookie season will be honored with a bobblehead on May 26 at PNC Field. The bobblehead has received national recognition and features Judge, adorned in a robe with a gavel for a baseball bat, standing atop the 2017 Rookie of the Year plaque. The bobblehead is presented by PNC Bank.
Potent Notables: In addition to the 2018 Legends Series, actor Patrick Renna will make an appearance on July 28. Renna played "Ham Porter" in the movie The Sandlot and the night features a bobblehead giveaway of his character's likeness.
Promo Watch: The RailRiders take on Louisville on Friday, June 8, and the game will be followed by our next post-game fireworks show at PNC Field.
