Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
MOOSIC, Pa. - Led by a fantastic outing from Chance Adams, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 3-1 on Wednesday night at PNC Field. With the win, the RailRiders evened the 2018 IronRail Series at 4-4.
The RailRiders took the lead in the bottom of the second when Ryan McBroom launched a tape-measure two-run home run to left field. It was the third round-tripper of the season for McBroom, and the first of the year allowed by IronPigs starter Enyel De Los Santos.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre extended the lead with the aid of another long ball in the bottom of the fourth, with Mike Ford taking De Los Santos deep for a solo shot. Ford's fourth home run of the season gave him a share of the team lead.
Staked to the lead, Chance Adams turned in a magnificent outing. The right-hander threw 7.0 shutout innings, allowing just one hit while walking two and striking out a season-high 10 batters. Adams retired the final 14 batters he faced, and was his first double-digit strikeout game since May 31, 2017.
In the top of the eighth, Lehigh Valley got on the board with a solo home run from Joey Meneses off Raynel Espinal and eventually loaded the bases with one out. However, Oliver Perez was able to roll an inning-ending double play to escape the jam.
Cody Carroll walked the leadoff batter in the top of the ninth, but settled down to slam the door shut to record his team-leading third save of the season. The RailRiders staff fanned 11 IronPigs batters, the third straight game that the team has recorded double-digit strikeouts.
Adams (1-2) earned his first win of the season for the RailRiders, while De Los Santos (4-1) was hung with his first loss. McBroom paced the offense with a 2-for-3 night, including a home run and two RBIs.
The RailRiders complete their three-game series and look to sweep the IronPigs on Thursday morning at PNC Field. First pitch is scheduled for 10:35 a.m. LHP Josh Rogers (3-3, 2.61) takes the mound for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while Lehigh Valley sends RHP Tom Eshelman (1-3, 6.87) to the bump.
