SwampDogs Top Blowfish 5-4

Lexington County Blowfish News Release

Lexington County, S.C. (May 29, 2015) - The Lexington County Blowfish jumped out to two early leads, but were unable to hold them, as the Fayetteville SwampDogs rallied back to take one away by a final score of 5-4 on Friday night.

Not only were there fireworks after the game, but there were plenty of fireworks during the game as well. The SwampDogs ripped five runs on 11 hits in this contest. There were plenty of runs scored in the first few innings of the game, as well.

The last run, however, came courtesy of a bases-loaded walk of Bligh Madris that scored Austin Upshaw in the top of the seventh.

The Blowfish had trouble generating any offense after jumping out to the early lead. Lexington County struck twice in the first inning.

First, Jared Williams (University of South Carolina), who led the game off with a walk, scored on a failed pickoff attempt. Austin Garcia (Bethune-Cookman) grounded out to short, scoring J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion).

With the bases loaded in the second inning, the Blowfish kept the offense coming. Back-to-back sacrifice flies by Crowe and Madison Stokes (University of South Carolina) brought in two more runs. That knocked starter Will Bice out of the game after two innings of work, forcing the SwampDogs to go to the bullpen, and the complexion of the game changed completely after that.

SwampDogs pitching retired 20 of the last 22 batters of the game. Nick Micelli, Kodi Whitley and hard-throwing closer Austin Mason settled down what was a chaotic start. Mason, along with Blowfish reliever Nick Jobst (USC-Aiken) struck out the side in their respective halves of the ninth inning with 90+ mph fastballs aplenty.

Elliot Lance (Wofford) tossed a solid debut with the Blowfish, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out six. It was the longest effort, 5.2 IP, by a Blowfish pitcher this season.

The Blowfish will remain home to host the Martinsville Mustangs at Lexington County Baseball Stadium at 7:05 p.m. To secure your tickets, and catch a postgame fireworks show, go to blowfishbaseball.com, call the box office at 803-254-FISH, or stop by Blowfish on Main at 101 East Main Street in Lexington, S.C.
