
Swamp Foxes End Season with 43-13 Thrashing of Speed

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC â The Charleston Swamp Foxes did it with defense, intercepting three Richmond passes and holding the visiting Speed to 90 yards passing en route to a season-ending 43-13 thrashing in front of 5,283 at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Three-year veteran Michael Brown did it all for the Swamp Foxes, earning both the ADT Defensive Player of the Game and Ironman Awards. He caught a pair of passes for 54 yards and a touchdown offensively, adding 5.5 tackles and a pair of interceptions on defense. As if that weren't enough, the former Charleston Southern product returned a missed field goal 56 yards for a score to end the first half of play.
Quarterback Johnny Turman completed 12-of-26 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns. Leroy McFadden led the Swamp Foxes receiving, hauling in four passes for 28 yards and a touchdown.
Antoine Calloway caught a trio of passes for 30 yards, while Joe Judge had a pair of receptions for 25 yards and a score. Judge also returned the Foxes' third interception 16 yards for a score midway through the third quarter.
Charleston jumped out to a 30-nothing lead, holding Richmond scoreless in the first half of play. The Speed didn't scratch the scoreboard until the 1:48 mark of the third quarter. The Swamp Foxes held Richmond to 31 yards passing and 41 total yards of offense in the decisive first half.
The Swamp Foxes finish the 2003 season with a team-best record of 9-7, the most wins in team history. Richmond finishes with a team-worst 6-10 mark.
