Keene Swamp Bats News Release
The third meeting between the Swamp Bats and Mainers proved to be a good one as Keene wins it 9-7 in a late game thriller.
Lincoln Henzman got the start today and was on a 65-pitch count limit. He would pitch just 4 innings and allow just one earned run and struck out five. It was Keene's hitting once again that would carry on for the victory.
Ryan Karl had his second straight consecutive grand slam in the bottom of the 5th inning to put the Swamp Bats on board to lead it 4-1.
Anthony Brocato added a 3 run home run for the Swamp Bats in the bottom of the 6th inning to increase their lead to 7-1. The Swamp Bats had six home runs in the entire month of June but have had six in the last two days.
However, things got interesting in the later innings when Tommy Doyle would come into the 8th inning with the bases loaded and would draw three walks and earned runs that were credited to John Leiter. The score would be cut to 7-5 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning.
Keene would score two runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to extend their lead to 9-5 off a Connor Foreman two RBI single.
The Mainers would retaliate with two runs of their own in the top of the 9th inning but Paul Covelle would close it out before Sanford would get the lead.
The Swamp Bats improved to 6-16 for their first win streak of the season. A total of 4281 would show up today to the Swamp Bats' annual Independence Day Eve ball game. Keene will have two days off before they head to Vermont on Monday.
