Keene Swamp Bats News Release

KEENE, N.H. - The Keene Swamp Bats snapped their six-game losing streak in walk-off fashion when Bret Dennis (St. John's) unloaded a double to left-centerfield to give the Swamp Bats a 7-6 victory over the New Bedford Bay Sox.

With the win the Swamp Bats improve to 2-7 on the season and New Bedford falls to 1-7 with the loss.

The ninth inning rally started when Dominic Severino (Central Conn State), pinch-hitting for fellow Central Connecticut teammate Connor Fitzsimons, singled down the left field line with one out in the inning. Ryan Summers (Louisville) then reached on an infield hit to third to put the potential winning run on base.

Summers was erased at second base on a fielder's choice by Brady Sheetz (Hartford) for the second out of the inning.

Keene got off to a rough start tonight, however as three errors allowed New Bedford to score three runs in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. Connor Biggio (Notre Dame) lead off the ballgame with a single to right. Walker Moses (Northwestern) sacrificed Biggio to second and reached on a throwing error by Swamp Bats starter Michael Dunnigan (St. Leo). David Mackinnon (Hartford) singled in Biggio to put the Bay Sox up 1-0. Andre Davis then reached on an error by second baseman Bret Dennis (St. John's), scoring Moses. New Bedford finished their scoring in the first when Josh Smith (William and Mary) reached on an error by Patrick McGrath (Washington State) scoring Mackinnon.

The Swamp Bats cut the 3-0 deficit to one in the second inning when Conner Simonetti (Kent State) singled in Zach Lauricella (St. John's) with nobody out. Fitzsimons reached on an error by Brad Johnson (West Virginia) allowing Aubrey McCarty (Vanderbilt) to score to make it a 3-2 game.

Simonetti then hit a three-run home run to left-centerfield with two outs in the third inning to give the Swamp Bats a 5-3 lead.

New Bedford got a run back in the top half of the fourth inning when Chris Travers (Roger Williams) hit a solo shot to left field to cut the deficit to 5-4.

That score held until the eighth inning when New Bedford retook the lead with a one out single to left field by Johnson, scoring Moses and Mackinnon to give the Bay Sox a 6-5 lead.

Matt Clancy (St. John's) was credited with the win despite giving up the lead in the eighth inning. Jimmy Davitt (Bryant) was credited with the blown save and the loss.

The Swamp Bats are in action again tomorrow night at 6:30 as they look to keep the winning ways going against the Valley Blue Sox.
