Keene Swamp Bats News Release

BOSTON, Mass. - Keene reliever Taylor Williams (Camas, WA/Washington St.) pitched a scoreless fourth inning to highlight the Swamp Bats efforts in a 3-2 exhibition contest win for Team NECBL over the Team USA Collegiate National Team on Monday afternoon at Fenway Park.

Williams, one of four Swamp Bats selected to Team NECBL, tossed a perfect 1-2-3 fourth inning retiring two Major League Baseball (MLB) Draftees, Deven Marrero (Davis, FL/Arizona St.) and Josh Elander (Round Rock, TX/TCU), inducing one fly out and two ground outs in his outing.

Keene second baseman Derek Toadvine (Springfield, OH/Kent St.) collected the Swamp Bats only hit of the game lining a double down the left field line in the third. Toadvine also recorded one assist.

Shortstop Alex Chittenden (Indianapolis, IN/Louisville) went 0-for-1 with a walk. In the field, Chittenden went unblemished recording one putout, five assists and he also turned in a nifty play in the fifth inning robbing LJ Mazzilli (Greenwich, CT/UConn) of a base hit making a backhanded stab in the hole and finishing across the diamond to end the frame.

Swamp Bats' starting pitcher Jeff Thompson (Greenville, IN/Louisville), who came out of the bullpen in the sixth inning, pitched one frame yielding one run (unearned) on zero hits, no walks and one strikeout.

Keene catcher David Lyon (Emporium, PA/Kent St.), who is an alternate for Team USA, went 0-for-3.

Holyoke pitcher Ryan Harvey (Manalapan, NJ/Seton Hall) earned the win on one inning and one hit. Team USA pitcher Tom Windle (Maple Grove, MN/Minnesota) was dealt the loss on one inning of work, two hits, two runs (one earned) and one walk. Newport Gulls pitcher Tanner Poppe (Girard, KS/Kansas) notched the save recording the final out of the ninth on a strikeout for a third-of-an-inning.

Team NECBL opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning as Holyoke Blue Sox catcher Tom Murphy (West Monroe, NY/Univ. of Buffalo) launched a solo home run over the Green Monster to put the visitors up 1-0 early on.

Dominic Ficociello (Fullerton, CA/Arkansas) tied up the contest at 1-1 for the Team USA Collegiate National Team with an RBI single to left centerfield plating Elander from third base. Ficociello was retired on the play trying to stretch a single into a double.

Mystic catcher Joe Hudson (Odessa, FL/Notre Dame) pushed Team NECBL ahead, 2-1, roping a single to right field scoring Holyoke first baseman Trey Mancini (Winter Haven, FL/Notre Dame) from third off of Windle. New Bedford Bay Sox catcher Brandon Miller (Tyrone, GA/Samford Univ.) made it 3-1 with a single through the left side plating Mancini.

The Team USA Collegiate National Team cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth taking advantage of three Team NECBL errors. Marrero knocked in the run on a fielding error at short allowing Tyler Naquin (Spring, TX/Texas A&M) to score from third base.

Keene returns to action tomorrow at home against the Laconia Muskrats at 6:30 pm.
