Keene Swamp Bats News Release
In what started off as a pitching duel on Tuesday night in Danbury, turned into an impressive 8-4 victory against their Western Division foes.
Nathan Kirby (2-0) again threw an absolute gem against the Westerners. The left-hander out of the University of Virginia went six scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts along the way.
Keene got the first run of the game on a wild pitch off of Danbury starter Zach Tax in the sixth inning to make it a 1-0 game.
The Westerners answered right back in the top of the seventh, scoring their first run on an error.
Keene exploded with seven runs over the last two innings to them ahead for good. Texas Tech's Eric Gutierrez, Georgia's Dan Nichols, and St. John's Zach Lauricella all had big RBI hits, which contributed in Keene's strong eighth and ninth innings to push them ahead.
James Connell came on in the ninth and gave up three runs, but that was all Danbury could rally as the Swamp Bats sealed the 8-4 win.
The victory improves the Swamp Bats' record to 21-14 and sees them move back to a full game over Vermont.
Keene will have the day off Wednesday before traveling to Holyoke on Thursday to take on the Blue sox in a double header.
