Swamp Bats Extend Losing Streak to 5

July 18, 2015 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Keene Swamp Bats News Release

The Swamp Bats travelled to Vermont to face the Mountaineers for the fourth time this season and lost 3-0 and the head-to-head series is now tied 2-2.

The game would begin a pitchers duel between Tommy Doyle and Tom Cosgrove with the first four innings being scoreless before Joe Dudek hit a two run home run in the 5th inning. Isaiah Pasteur would start that inning with a single and a stolen base.

Vermont would get another run from an RBI single from Austin Clemons and would extend their lead to 3-0.

Tommy Doyle would get his second start for the Swamp Bats and pitched 4.2 innings allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out four. John Leiter would come in for relief afterwards and Brian Stepniak would see some action too.

Vermont would hold on to their lead heading into the bottom of the 8th inning but not before an hour and a half rain delay that halted action. The game would resume and Vermont would win it 3-0.

Lucas Luopa would continue his hit streak to five going 3-for-4 with a stolen base.

Keene will have the next two days off with the NECBL All-Star game being played with Zach Willeman and Garrett Christman being selected for it. The Swamp Bats fall to 8-23 now and will be back at home on Tuesday again against Vermont. With the season drawing its conclusion, Keene will have 7 of its last 11 games at home in Alumni Field.
