Keene Swamp Bats News Release

KEENE, N.H. - It was a good old fashion pitchers duel at Alumni Field Tuesday night as the Sanford Mainers hung on to a 3-0 victory over the Keene Swamp Bats in Game 2 of the NECBL North Division Semi-Final to keep their season alive and tie the series at one game a piece.

Sanford starter Rich Vrana (Marist) was nearly un-hittable for the Mainers as he pitched seven shutout innings of one-hit ball. Vrana had a no-hitter through 6 2/3 innings until Bret Dennis (St. John's) broke it up with a two out single in the seventh.

The Swamp Bats sent the tying run to the plate in the ninth when Brady Sheetz (Hartford) and Zach Lauricella (St. John's) reached base on a walk and a long single to start the inning. Cam Hatch (St. Edwards) however was able to strike out the next three batters to preserve the win and pick up the save.

Swamp Bats starter Dominic Severino (Central Connecticut State) pitched 4 1/3 solid innings giving up just one mistake in the ballgame when Matt Harris (St. John's) hit a towering two-run home run to right field to break the scoreless tie and give the Mainers a 2-0 lead.

That finished his night in which he gave up just two runs on three hits and struck out six Mainers.

Sam Triece (Washington State) came in for 3 2/3 shutout innings in relief and striking out six.

The Mainers added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning when Caden Bailey (Georgia State) lead off the ninth with a home run off of Jack Roberts (Virginia) to give Sanford a 3-0 lead.

The Swamp Bats and Mainers will play a winner take all Game 3 tomorrow night at 6:30 in Sanford. The winner of the game will play the winner of the Vermont Mountaineers and Laconia Muskrats series in the North Division Final.
