Swamp Bats Drop Bay Sox 1-0 for First Win of the Season

The New Bedford Bay Sox were stunned by the Keene Swamp Bats after earning their first win of the season, led by starting pitcher Kyle Gauthier. Gauthier recorded his first win pitching six innings allowing no earned runs and striking out seven.

The Swamp Bats scored early in the first, which would be the only run scored for both teams. Lucas Luopa scored on a Mike Geannelis RBI groundout. Luopa went 2 for 3 after going 0 for 4 last night. Geannelis continued his hitting streak tonight after going 2 for 3 last night at Bedford.

The Bay Sox had more hits than the Swamp Bats with a tally at seven. However, the pitching staff as an entirety was almost flawless today. Connor Sahlin had three strikeouts in two innings and Zach Willeman earned the save. The Swamp Bats now improve its record to 1-5.

The New Bedford Bay Sox had a pitching clinic going for them as well, after allowing just one run in the 1st. The left handed pitcher Howard Brey went 8 innings and allowed just one earned run and added 3 strikeouts to his stat line.

Another notable hitter today for the Swamp Bats was Connor Fitzsimons who went 1 for 2.

The game was originally supposed to be played on Tuesday but due to some rain showers and thunderstorms, they played today. The Swamp Bats will go on the road tomorrow to play the Laconia Muskrats.
