New Bedford Bay Sox News Release

Keane - The New Bedford Bay Sox were defeated last night by the Keane Swamp Bats for their second loss of the season, in a final score of 1-0, at Alumni Field in Keane.

Lucas Luopa (Eckerd) led off the game with a double for Keane. Later in the first inning he would find his way home, being pushed across by Michael Geannelis (UMass Amherst) on a fielder's choice and scoring the sole run of the game.

Keane starting pitcher Kyle Gauthier (Hartford) threw well for the Swamp Bats. His night would consist of seven strikeouts, allowing five hits, in six scoreless innings of work. He struck out seven of the nine starting Bay Sox hitters.

Keane's bullpen would continue to do the same against New Bedford, holding them too no runs in three innings of work, giving up only one hit, by Connor Sahlin (Florence-Darlington) and Zach Willeman (Kent St.).

Howard Brey (Rutgers) would throw eight innings of one run baseball en route to his second consecutive quality start. Brey struck out three batters while scattering five hits on his night. He would pick up his first loss for New Bedford in 2015.

Anthony Critelli (Holy Cross) would record multiple hits at the dish. Critelli doubled to center in the first inning and would single to left in the fifth.

Manny Morris (Villanova) would contribute to the Bay Sox seven hits by recording his first of the season with a single in the second inning. Morris would also reach base twice in painful fashion, getting plunked two times by Keane starting pitcher Gauthier.

The Bay Sox will be on the road again Friday night, as they look to take on the North Adams SteepleCats for the first time this season.
