Indiana Fever News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Not only will the Indiana Fever have two players in the starting lineup next Sunday during the 2007 WNBA All-Star Game, but a third player, Tammy Sutton-Brown, will represent the Fever as one of six reserves named Monday following a vote by Eastern Conference coaches.
Forward Tamika Catchings and guard Anna DeForge were named last week as Eastern Conference starters, courtesy of fan balloting in arenas and on the Internet, to mark the first time the Fever has ever boasted two starters in the annual event. With Sutton-Brown's inclusion as a reserve, Indiana has three All-Stars for the first time in its history.
The trio of Fever All-Stars has helped guide Indiana (13-4) to the best record in the WNBA. They will participate in the annual All-Star Game which takes place Sunday, July 15, at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The game will be televised nationally on ABC-TV, with tipoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
For Sutton-Brown, it is her second All-Star selection, appearing 17 minutes with nine points and four rebounds as a reserve in 2002. For the Fever, she is the team's second-leading scorer and rebounder. She trails Catchings in each category, averaging 12.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Her .567 shooting percentage currently leads the WNBA and her 1.3 blocks per game are seventh in the league. She is seventh all-time among WNBA blocked shot leaders, and just the sixth player in WNBA history with 2,000 career points and 300 career blocks.
Sutton-Brown signed as a free agent with the Fever in March, and it is her presence in the post that is often regarded as a primary reason for the Fever's surge to the top of the WNBA standings.
The Fever has two games remaining before the All-Star break, including a home date with New York (July 12). Single-game tickets for all Fever home games may be purchased at the Conseco Fieldhouse Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations or FeverBasketball.com.
