Green Bay Gamblers News Release

(Green Bay, WI) – The Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) announced that defenseman Garrett Suter has committed to the University of Wisconsin of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).

By committing to the Badgers the Madison, Wisconsin native continues the tradition of Suter's who have played their collegiate hockey at Wisconsin. Suter's dad Bob led the Badgers to the NCAA National Championship in 1977. Bob also was a member of the 1980 United States Men's Hockey team that captured gold at Lake Placid. Brother Ryan, who just signed a professional contract with the Nashville Predators, played this last season for the Badgers. And Uncle Gary adorned the Badgers jersey from 1983-85.

Suter, 17 (6/9/87) who holds the distinction as the youngest player on the Gamblers roster, has two points (1g & 1a) in his first four games in the USHL. Like his father, who accumulated 377 minutes in penalties in his four years (75-79) at Wisconsin, Suter also plays a physical style, leading the Gamblers in penalty minutes with 16 on the 2004-05 campaign

The Madison Capitals AAA product is the third Gambler defensemen in the last two years to commit to the Badgers. Kyle Klubetanz and Josh Engel, both of whom played last season in Green Bay under Badgers assistant coach Mark Osiecki, are entering their freshman year at Wisconsin

Suter becomes the 8th Gambler off the 2004-05 squad to commit to a NCAA Division I institution. Others include forwards Corey Couturier (Ferris State); Tyler Lehrke (Bemidji State); Mitch Kerns (Minnesota-Duluth); Brad Miller (North Dakota); Blake Wheeler (Minnesota); defenseman Adam Davis (Northern Michigan), and goaltender Michael Zacharias (Minnesota State – Mankato).
