
Sussex tops Jackals in extra inning thriller

Little Falls, NJ "" The first matchup between the New Jersey Jackals and the Sussex Skyhawks was a dandy, with the Skyhawks pulling it out in extra innings by the score of 3-2.
After three scoreless innings pitched by Isaac Pavlik for New Jersey and Brian Ford for Sussex, the Jackals got on the scoreboard first in the top of the fourth. A Jason Belcher single to right field scored Wilton Veras, making it an early 1-0 lead.
The Jackals made it a 2-0 advantage in the following inning, as Jason Tuttle served up a single into left field, scoring Joe Mihalics.
Sussex finally put up a run in the bottom of the sixth, when James Cooper singled home Scott Grimes. Through six complete, the Jackals held a slim 2-1 lead.
Pavlik kept the Skyhawks at bay until the bottom of the eighth, when a two-out, bunt single by Marcos Agramonte evened the score at two runs-a-piece.
The scored stayed the same, through nine innings, sending the contest into extra frames. And in the bottom of the tenth, with the bases loaded, Josh Ury's sacrifice fly scored Scott Grimes, winning the game for the Skyhawks.
The loss went to Josh Schwartz in relief, while reliever Julio Perez tallied the win for Sussex.
New Jersey starter Isaac Pavlik was great in 7.2 innings pitch. He allowed eight hits, leading to two runs, both earned, while walking none, and striking out four. He sat down the first 12 Skyhawks he faced in succession.
