Surrey Council extends BC Lions training facility lease

(Surrey) The BC Lions Football Club along with Surrey City Council announced today that they have recently agreed upon a lease extension that will allow the BC Lions to maintain their training facility in Surrey until 2014 with an option on two additional years. The BC Lions have leased their head office and training facility premises at 10605-135 Street from the City of Surrey since 1990.

"The BC Lions are pleased to extend our agreement with the City of Surrey," said Lions owner, president and CEO David Braley. "Our organization is proud to have established roots in this community for nearly two decades and we are excited to continue our relationship with the City of Surrey in years to come."

"The BC Lions are an iconic part of our local and provincial identity," said Mayor Dianne Watts, "We are proud to have such an outstanding team call Surrey home." Watts continued to say that the BC Lions have great impact in Surrey both on and off the practice field through their numerous community initiatives.

The new lease provides for continued participation by the BC Lions in local community events and programs within Surrey, such as the Timbits Football Camps for kids and Football 101 & 202 for women. The BC Lions also run programs for elementary and secondary school students in Surrey promoting physical activity and helping to maintain positive attitudes amongst the youth in the community.

In order to more fully utilize their training opportunities, the BC Lions recently moved all of their staff to the Surrey location and completed substantial renovations to the building. In order to secure a longer tenure at this location, the Lions requested to Surrey City Council a five year extension plus a two year option to their extending lease term.
