
Surge Owner and Interim Coach Roy Lucas, Jr. Appoints Assistants

Worcester, MA. Roy Lucas, Jr., Owner and Interim Coach of the New England Surge of the Continental Indoor Football League, (CIFL), has appointed Coach Snay as Offensive Coordinator and Coach Haverty as Defensive Coordinator. Since releasing Coach Rick Buffington as Head Coach, Lucas has relied heavily on his experienced and talented coaching staff that also includes Assistant Coach Dennis Faulkner handling Player Personnel, and Assistant Coach Hampton Clarkson Defensive End/Kickers. Lucas states, "I am very pleased to be able to rely on these local top notch coaches as the Surge's coaching coordinators. Jerry Snay's proven winning record plus his vast 20 years of experience brings a great deal of coaching expertise to the team." Lucas continues, "Patrick Haverty's past Head Coaching experience led his football teams to many championships. Our focus is to maximize our talented players' ability and win."
Coach Snay relays, "I am happy to help the team in any capacity. I will do my best to help our team improve and showcase the many talented players which make up our team." Coach Haverty states, "I am honored to be working with Roy and the entire coaching staff to coach these very experienced and talented athletes. We are working towards coming back home with a couple of wins."
Snay is the current Head Football Coach of the South High Colonels in Worcester posting an undefeated 12-0 season capped off with a Super Bowl Championship. Snay started his football career at Saint John's High School in Shrewsbury, Ma and played collegiately as an offensive lineman at University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Prior to becoming a high school Head Coach in 2002, Snay spent three years as the offensive line coach for the Worcester State Lancers, winning titles such as NEFC Co-Champions, runner up for the ECAC title, and 2001 ECAC Champions. In addition, throughout his career as an offensive lineman for the Marlboro Shamrocks, he was instrumental in bringing his teams to AFA and USFA National Championships, winning 9 National Championships. He also played numerous All Star games including Team USA National All-Stars in Orlando, FL, and FASCO (Free Agent Scouting Combines) All-Star Game, and the NMFL North/South All-Star Game. Prior to joining the coaching staff of Worcester State Lancers, Snay served as the offensive and defensive line coach at Millbury High School. One of Snay's proudest accomplishments is coaching his son in the Shrewsbury Pop Warner Pee Wee and Jr. Midgets levels.
Prior to joining the Surge, Coach Haverty served as Head Football Coach for Fitchburg State College. While at Fitchburg State, Haverty compiled a 30-16 regular season record. During his time there, he was able to guide the team to their only two New England Football Conference Bogan Division Championships, (2004, 2005). Haverty's team also appeared in two N.E.F.C. Championship Games and two ECAC Bowl games. Prior to Fitchburg State, Haverty served as the Head Football Coach at North Middlesex Regional High School from 2000-2001. Coach Haverty has also had coaching stints at University of Massachusetts-Lowell 1998-1999 (Offensive Coordinator), Fitchburg State, 1996-1997 (Defensive Coordinator), and Leominster High School 1991-1995. Haverty lives in Fitchburg with his wife Susan and three lovely children.
On Saturday, May 5, the Surge is facing the Steubenville Stampedes. They return to Worcester with back to back home games on May 12, 19 and 26.The Surge's regular practice schedule is Wednesday and Thursday at The Auburn SportsPlex, Teamworks on Route 20 in Auburn from 7-10PM.
