Surge Netminder Smiley Named SBK Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, NC (December 6, 2011) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Kiefer Smiley of the Mississippi Surge is the SBK Player of the Week for November 28-December 4.

Smiley won two games on the road in less than 24 hours last week, posting a 2.51 goals against average and a .906 save percentage.

On Saturday, the Surge traveled to Columbus where Smiley made 23 saves in a 4-3 win over the Cottonmouths. Smiley came back on Sunday with a 25-save performance as the Surge defeated the Mississippi RiverKings 3-2 in an afternoon contest.

A native of Duncan, British Columbia, Smiley currently leads the SPHL with a 2.36 goals against average and a save percentage of .916. Smiley, who spent the last two seasons with the BCHL's Trail Smoke Eaters, currently has a 5-0 record.
