Pair of Players Suspended by SPHL
December 6, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL) News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced it has suspended Louisiana forward Josh Duplantis for five games for an incident in the IceGators' game against the Mississippi RiverKings on Friday, December 2.
At the 9:39 mark of the third period, Duplantis was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for boarding. "In reviewing the video, as the Mississippi player cleared the puck out of the zone, Mr. Duplantis forcefully hit him from behind, violently driving him head-first into the boards," stated SPHL Vice President Doug Price. "Mr. Duplantis hit the Mississippi player after he no longer had possession of the puck and clearly took a path so that the hit was delivered from the blind side. The Mississippi player was unaware of the impending check and had no chance of protecting himself."
Duplantis sat out Louisiana's game against the Mississippi RiverKings on December 3 and will also miss games against Fayetteville on December 9 and 10, Pensacola on December 15 and Huntsville on December 17.
In addition, the SPHL suspended Mississippi RiverKIngs forward Darrell Stoddard for one game for an incident in the RiverKings' game against Louisiana on Saturday, December 3 whereby he was assessed a major penalty for elbowing at the 8:51 mark of the second period. Stoddard missed the RiverKings' game against the Mississippi Surge on Sunday, December 4.
