Mississippi Surge goaltender Kiefer Smiley is the Southern Professional Hockey League SBK Player of the Week for the week ending December 4.
Smiley posted two road victories less than 24 hours apart, as he helped the Surge take a 4-3 win at Columbus Saturday night, then was in goal for a 3-2 win against the Mississippi RiverKings Sunday afternoon.
For the week, he stopped 48 of the 53 shots he faced for a .906 save percentage. He ran his record to 5-0-0 on the season, with a 2.36 goals against average and a .916 save percentage.
Smiley and the Surge continue a five game road trip this weekend playing Friday in Pensacola at 7:05 p.m. and at Columbus (where Smiley has posted two victories) Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Both games can be seen at Hooters Biloxi Beach.
The next home game for the Surge is Saturday, December 17th against Columbus. That will be the annual teddy bear toss, presented by Teddy Bear Restoration and Carpet Cleaning.
