
Surf Sign Lefty Starter Cox

Atlantic City, N.J. - The Atlantic City Surf of the Can-Am League have signed lefthanded pitcher Adam Cox, the independent United League's 2007 Pitcher of the Year.
The native of Valdosta, Ga., spent most of 2007 with Alexandria (La.) of the United League. He led the circuit with 12 wins and 117 strikeouts and finished fourth with a 2.38 ERA, as the Aces won their second consecutive UL championship. Cox's contract was purchased by the Boston Red Sox in August of 2007, and he made six appearances for Single-A Lancaster of the California League, going 2-1 with a 5.85 ERA.
Cox, 27, also spent the 2006 season with Alexandria, and pitched in 2004 and 2005 with Jackson of the Central League. Originally a fourth-round choice of the Cleveland Indians in 2000 out of Darton (Ga.) College, he reached as high as Single-A with the Tribe, in 2002. In his career, Cox has 259 strikeouts in 267 innings pitched.
