San Diego Surf Dawgs News Release

The San Diego Surf Dawgs finished in last place after the first half of the 2006 GBL season, but they have jumped to first in the second half with a 4-1 record. They got their fourth win Friday at the expense of the Flyers.

San Diego took down the Flyers 6-2 on Friday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium behind a 17 hit barrage and a good outing from starter Chris Gale. Adam Mandel, who went five for five with five doubles in the GBL All-Star Game, went five for five again Friday.

Peanut Williams cranked his league leading 16th homerun of the season. It was a solo shot in the 6th inning to get the Flyers within two at 3-1.

San Diego jumped in front off of the Flyers starter Craig Frydendall when Mandel and Tony Garcia drove in runs after a crucial error by Gabe Mayorga at second base.

Johnny Day added an RBI single in the 3rd inning to put the Surf Dawgs up 3-0.

San Diego answered Peanut's homerun with a two-run 6th inning behind RBI hits from Seth Pietsch and Scott Goodman off reliever Nick Casanova. Scott Goodman was ejected from the game after he was thrown out by Toshi Sasa at home plate.

Sasa scored the Flyers second run in the 7th inning on an Adam Mandel error to make it a 5-2 game.

San Diego added four hits and a run off Jon Grijalva in the 8th to take a four-run lead.

Chris George threw two innings to get the save.

Chris Gale won his first game of the season in his ninth start by throwing 5.1 and giving up one run. He struck out a career-high six batters.

Game three of the series will take place Saturday in San Diego at 6:05 pm.

Chris Jakubauskas will try and right the Flyers ship with a quality start.
