Orange County Flyers News Release

The Flyers got their first win since the all-star break Saturday with a 5-2 victory at Tony Gwynn Stadium in San Diego. Chris Jakubauskas was solid through six innings and Wes Faust closed it to move Fullerton to 3-4 in the second half of the season.

In his third game as a Flyer, Jesse Schmidt showed his best stuff by getting three hits, driving in three runs and reaching base safely in all four plate appearances in a three-run Flyers victory over the Surf Dawgs. Schmidt tripled in two runs in the first inning to put the Flyers in front.

Jakubauskas gave up only three hits and one unearned run in his six innings of work. He earned his fourth victory of the season, while striking out six.

The Flyers added to their lead in the 4th inning when Buddy Morales and Matt Ferrara came through with clutch hits. The inning was set up by singles from Peanut Williams and Jesse Schmidt and a sacrifice bunt by Brett Flowers.

The 4-0 lead could have been larger if not for a disputed call on a potential two-RBI double by Gabe Mayorga. Mayorga's line-drive was called foul and he later lined out to the pitcher to end the inning.

Jesse Schmidt gave the Flyers a 5-1 lead with an RBI single in the 5th inning to plate Garry Templeton II.

The Surf Dawgs scored their first run in the 4th inning on a fielding error from Toshi Sasa.

They scored again in the 7th inning when Robert Mason came in to relieve Jakubauskas. Mason walked four batters including an RBI walk to Kevin Ciarrachi. Charlie Hough was ejected from the game for arguing balls and strikes in the 7th inning.

San Diego starter Justin Ottman left the game after being roughed up through four innings.

Wes Faust got Scott Goodman to fly out to left with two runners on in the 9th inning to end the game.

Todd Gelatka will try and split the four game series for the Flyers as he takes to the hill at 5:05 pm.
