Fresno FC News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - The Foxes were nearly given run for their money against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC reserves, but Renato Bustamante and Franck Tayou tag-teamed a massive comeback to lead Fresno FC to a 4-3 win on Wednesday at Chukchansi Park.

Trailing 2-0 at the half, Bustamante sparked the flame at the 50th minute, when he struck home a right-footed finish from inside the 18. Fresno FC trialist Jorge Escamila sent in a long cross to Bustamante into the right side of the box, where he put it past Vancouver's Thomas Hasal for the score. Six minutes later, Fresno FC equalized as Escamilla with a first-touch finish on a pass from Fresno FC U-23 midfielder Diego Casillas. Bustamante kept fueling the comeback, assisting Franck Tayou's go-ahead goal at the 65th minute. Tayou finished with a brace, scoring his second of the night at the 85th minute on a pass from Casillas.

Fresno FC played several players from its under-23 Premier Development League side and trialists in the exhibition against the reserves of its MLS affiliate Vancouver Whitecaps FC. On the other end of the ball, Whitecaps FC fielded three current Foxes players in Cory Brown, Terran Campbell and Matthew Baldisimo.

The Whitecaps FC reserves quickly opened the scoring at the 14th minute when Fresno's Beto Navarro fouled Theo Bair in the box for a penalty, that Bair easily converted. With the lead, Vancouver kept up the high press and hit paydirt when Simon Colyn scooped the rebound in the box for the 2-0 advantage at the 21st minute.

The Foxes had a few chances to cut the lead in the first half as midfielder Noah Verhoeven shot went over the bar while Navarro's early diving header sailed just wide of the right post.

Tied 2-2, the Whitecaps nearly took the lead again when Colyn lined up for a dangerous free kick atop the right side of the 18 at minute 58. His shot, however, was pushed away by second-half goalkeeper Mark Pais. Colyn was later subbed off for Jefferson Alade, at the 69th minute. At the 87th minute, Alade found space behind the Fresno FC defense to make the score 4-3.
