Hagerstown Suns News Release

Eastlake, OH: It took six games to do it, but the Hagerstown Suns finally got a win against the Lake County Captains. With a display of pitching, defense, and offense that has rarely come together all at once this year for Hagerstown, the Suns played a complete game in all areas and beat Lake County, 8-2. The Suns finished the first half at 28-39 while Lake County ended the half 36-34.

The win stopped a seven game losing streak, and hopefully puts the Suns in a good frame of mind for their off day on Monday and the start of the second half on Tuesday against the Lakewood Blueclaws in Hagerstown.

An almost perfect pitching performance by Jesse Floyd (2-5) was exactly what the Suns needed to end their first half. Floyd was masterful over seven shutout innings, his longest outing of the year. Floyd gave up only three hits and was the beneficiary of some great defense and tons of run support. Floyd had two leads vanish after he left ball games earlier this year, and wasn't getting a whole lot of run support during his starts, but Sunday was different.

Mike Wagner was the biggest supporter in the way of runs. Wagner was 3-5 with two homeruns and four RBI's. It was the fourth time this year a Suns batter had gone deep twice in one game (Armitage once and Ishaikawa twice). After Wagner it was Derek Barrows supplying three hits which included a solo homer. Jesse Schmidt, Pat Dobson, and Jason Columbus had two hits each in a 14 hit attack.

Chris George went the final 1 2/3 in. of scorless baseball after Mike Musgrave had given up two runs in relief.

The Suns are off on Monday, and start the second half on Tuesday at home against the Lakewood Blueclaws at 7:05pm from Municipal Stadium. Tickets are available by calling the Suns ticket office at 301-791-6266.
