Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
Mobile, Ala. - Suns third baseman Andy LaRoche belted a three-run homerun to open up a four-run lead in the fifth inning, and the Jacksonville Suns held on the rest of the way to defeat the Mobile BayBears Monday night by the score of 4-0 at Hank Aaron Stadium.
The win combined with a Montgomery loss to West Tenn puts Jacksonville back into first place by a half-game heading into Tuesday's action.
With the Suns leading 1-0 in the fifth inning Andy LaRoche crushed his third homerun of the season, a hard drive over the left-centerfield wall to extend the Jacksonville lead to 4-0. Jacksonville sent all nine men to the plate in the inning, but left the bases loaded after the homerun.
Jacksonville began the scoring in the second inning as Anthony Raglani singled to centerfield scoring A.J. Zapp with two out to give the Suns a 1-0 lead. The Indiana, Pa native finished the night 2-2 with two intentional walks.
Suns pitcher Joel Hanrahan pitched well in his return to the active roster, pitching six innings of shutout baseball while allowing only four hits. The number four starter for the Suns walked four and struck out three after suffering a hamstring injury in Birmingham on May 5.
The Suns defense turned five double plays, one short of tying a Southern League record for double plays turned by one team. The eight double plays between the teams was also one short of a Southern League record for twin-killings turned between teams in a single game.
Joel Hanrahan improved to 3-2 in the victory while Jose Oyervidez fell to 1-4 in the loss. Alvis Ojeda saved his first game of the season.
The final game of the series is scheduled for 12:35 p.m. ET Tuesday at Hank Aaron Stadium. Suns RHP Spike Lundberg (4-1, 2.72) will face BayBears LHP Roger Deago (4-2, 3.41). The game will be available live on the Internet at milb.com and jaxsuns.com and on a tape delay basis at 7:00 p.m. on AM 930 The Fox.
