Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY - A day after losing a tense 2-1 nailbiter to Montgomery, the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (24-15) returned the favor, eking out a 2-1 win over the Biscuits (22-16).

The victory gave the Jaxx three triumphs in four games in Montgomery, clinching the series win.

Gabriel Martinez hit his fifth home run of the season to give the home team an early 1-0 lead. That would spell the end of the Biscuits' offense against West Tenn starter Juan Mateo (3-2).

The Diamond Jaxx offense tied the game in the top of the fourth on a Micah Hoffpauir sacrifice fly, then took the lead off of Montgomery starter Chris Flinn (1-3) in the sixth on a Luis Montanez RBI single.

Meanwhile, Mateo and three relievers kept the Biscuits off the board the rest of the way. In all, Mateo worked six dominant innings, limiting Montgomery to two hits while walking one and striking out three. He yielded to relievers Carmen Pignatiello and Thomas Atlee, who held the Biscuits scoreless and hitless through the eighth innings. Closer Clay Rapada pitched around an Elliot Johnson leadoff single in the ninth for his eleventh.

Montgomery will look to salvage the series in the series finale on Tuesday night at 7:05 pm matinee affair. Southpaw Mike Prochaska (1-0, 5.40) will start for the Biscuits against Diamond Jaxx righthander Randy Wells (2-1, 1.61).
