
Suns Put It All Together for a Solid 5-3 Win over Brockton

In their first matchup of the season the Pittsfield Suns (8-7) defeated theBrockton Rox (5-9) 5-3 to move back over .500 on the season. The Suns played a terrific all-around game with Matt O'Kipney pitching five good innings in his first start of the season and four different players driving in runs.
The Suns actually fell behind early with the Rox riding early walks to single runs in the first and second innings. The deficit did not last long for the Suns though. Frank Crinella (Merrimack College) drove home Rob McLam (UMass-Amherst) with a towering double that hit off of the left-center field wall.
The Suns kept up the scoring in the bottom of the fourth with three more runs off of two hits and two walks. Kyle Singleton (Northeaster Oklahoma State) and Steve Dill (Harvard) led off the inning with back-to-back walks and came around to score on a Luke Reynolds infield single and a fielding error on the Rox first baseman Lorenzo Papa (Broward College). Bo Slemons (Xavier University) picked up his first extra base hit of the season with a ringing double to left that drove in Reynolds.
The Suns scored another single run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Steve Dill, driving home Ryan Deitrich (Duke University).
Matt O'Kipney (UMass-Lowell)made his first start of the season and was able to pitch around six walks and four singles to just give up two runs in five innings. O'Kipney gave way to a dominant bullpen that went four innings; allowing just three hits while striking out seven.
Pittsfield native Peter Gregory (Eastern Connecticut)made his season debut for the Suns, pitching a shutout seventh inning that featured two strikeouts.
Adam Whitt (University of Nevada) came in to earn his third save of the season. Whitt lowered his season ERA to an astonishing 0.87 in 10.1 innings with 17 strikeouts.
The Suns play their next game Thursday, June 28th against the 7-4 North Shore Navigators. The Suns next home game with be on the 4th of July against the Nashua Silver Knights at Wahconah Park.
