Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Jacksonville Suns received a taste of the action with the Major League Baseball trade deadline on Friday, July 31 as the Florida Marlins acquired first baseman Nick Johnson from the Washington Nationals in exchange for Suns starter Aaron Thompson.

Over 20 starts for the Suns, Thompson was 5-9 with a 4.11 ERA and 75 strikeouts over 114 innings. A former first-round pick in 2005 by the Marlins, Thompson was in his second season at AA after 16 starts with Carolina in 2008. The left-handed prospect's change-up was rated best in the organization this season by Baseball America.

Thompson is expected to be assigned to the Nationals' AA affiliate, the Harrisburg Senators of the Eastern League. He was the only player to be included in the trade for Johnson, who will now play first base and bat second for the Marlins.
