Suns Blank Stars in Series Opener

Jacksonville, Fla. - Scott Cousins drove in the only run of the night in the fourth inning and saved the lead with an eighth inning outfield assist leading the Jacksonville Suns (60-46, 25-11) to a 1-0 victory over the Hun tsville Stars (52-53, 14-22) in front of 6,696 Saturday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Suns starter Nic Ungs (7-2) picked up the victory, pitching six scoreless innings with four hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. Bobby Bramhall (4-7) entered the game following an early rain delay and allowed one run and two hits over three innings with two walks and six strikeouts. Matt Peterson (26) saved the game with a perfect ninth inning, increasing his Southern League-leading save total.

Jacksonville's Scott Cousins knocked in the game's only run on a fourth inning single, scoring Mike Stanton from second base for a 1-0 lead.

Huntsville's best scoring opportunity came in the eighth inning against Suns reliever Kasey Olenberger. W ith runners at first and second base with two out, Jonathan Lucroy singled into centerfield sending lead runner Adam Stern around third headed for home. Suns centerfielder Scott Cousins fired to the plate and catcher Brad Davis' tag recorded the final out of the inning.

Suns RH Brad Stone will face Stars RH Josh Wahpepah in game two of the series Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Sunday is back-to-school day, library day and Chevrolet day. One lucky boy and girl will win a new bicycle through the Jacksonville Public Library's summer reading program. After the game kids can run the bases.
