Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Suns reached season highs in both hits and runs, and Danny Black, Kyle Jensen and Mark Canha all homered in a 10-3 win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium.
Jacksonville pounded out 18 hits and reached double digits in runs for the first time in 2013, earning its sixth win in the team's last seven games. The 18 hits set a record for the most ever in a game involving the Blue Wahoos, and were the most in a game for the Suns since an 18-hit outburst on May 28, 2011 against the Montgomery Biscuits in Alabama.
The offensive onslaught began immediately for the Suns against Pensacola starter Tim Crabbe (1-1), as Danny Black hit his first home run of the season to lead off the game in the top of the first inning. Two innings later Kyle Jensen followed up with his second blast of the year, a two-run no-doubter to left that put Jacksonville ahead 3-0 through two and a half innings.
The Blue Wahoos found some success against Suns starter Adam Conley in the bottom half of the third, scoring on a bases loaded walk and a two-run single off the bat of Steve Selsky that tied the score. Conley finished with a no-decision after he was lifted following a four-inning outing in which he struck out three and also walked three.
Jacksonville took the lead for good the very next inning. With a pair of runners on, Derek Dietrich tripled down the right field line, scoring both Danny Black and J.T. Realmuto, putting the Suns ahead 5-3. Kyle Jensen quickly drove in Dietrich with a bloop single to push Jacksonville's lead to three.
Mark Canha added his first long ball of 2013, a drive over the right center field wall, in the top of the fifth to make it 7-3 to cap off the scoring against Crabbe, who had come into the contest with an ERA of 0.82.
Even with Crabbe out of the game, the Suns' offense did not slow down. Jensen drove in another run with a double to left in the sixth, scoring Realmuto and increasing the lead to 8-3. An RBI groundout from Zach Cox and a run-scoring single by Mark Canha later in the inning lifted the Suns' run total to ten and closed out the scoring.
By the time Raudel Lazo recorded the final out of the game for the Suns, Jacksonville had a box score to be proud of. Realmuto became the first Sun to record four hits in a game in 2013, and the top six hitters in the order (Black, Realmuto, Dietrich, Jensen, Cox and Canha) all had multi-hit contests. Every Suns regular had at least one base hit in the seven-run triumph.
On the mound, Jacksonville's bullpen continued to impress. Edgar Olmos (2-0) earned the win in relief, and Rett Varner and Raudel Lazo finished the Blue Wahoos off with three scoreless frames between them.
The Suns will try to secure a series victory in game four of the five game series on Thursday behind first-time starter Michael Ojala (1-0, 6.00 ERA). The Jacksonville right-hander will face Blue Wahoos right-hander Chad Rogers (1-0, 2.45 ERA), with first pitch scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.
Suns fans can listen to the game broadcast beginning at 7:45 p.m. with the UF & Shands Suns Sunday Pre Game Show on WSOS-FM 94.1. Other options include listening to live audio through jaxsuns.com or MiLB.com, or through the Suns iPhone or Android app.
