M-Braves Score Two In Ninth, Walkoff With Win

PEARL, MISS. (April 17, 2013) - Mississippi's Phil Gosselin lined a base hit to right in the bottom of the ninth Wednesday morning that scored Jaime Pedroza, giving the Braves (5-8) a 3-2 walkoff win over the Generals (6-7). The win gave the M-Braves a 2-1 series lead and was their second win in a row over Jackson.

The Generals led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning as Carson Smith (L, 0-1 - 0.2,2,2,2,1) surrendered a leadoff walk to Dan Brewer then after a sacrifice bunt from Luis Nunez got an RBI double from Pedroza tying the game at 2-2. Gosselin's RBI single made the second time this season Jackson has allowed a walkoff.

The M-Braves jumped on the board first with a solo home run from Edward Salcedo in the bottom of the second inning.

The Braves' 1-0 lead remained until the top of the eighth inning when Jackson plated two runs and took a 2-1 advantage. 2B Gabriel Noriega (2x3, RBI) brought in C John Hicks (2x3, R) with a single to right tying the game. The next batter, CF Abraham Almonte (0x4, RBI) layed down a safety squeeze that scored RF James Jones (2x3, R) giving Jackson their first lead.

Jackson starter Roenis Elias (6.2,4,1,1,2,2) settled for a no decision after tossing a season-high 6.2 innings. It was the longest start by a Jackson starting pitcher this season. Jonathan Arias (1.1,0,0,0,0,2) came in and tossed 1.1 scoreless innings. Smith blew his second save and suffered the loss.

Mississippi reliever and former Vanderbill pitcher Mark Lamm (2-1) notched the win after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings. Braves starter Alex Wood tossed 7.0 scoreless frames on four hits, but picked up a no decision.

The Generals and M-Braves will play game four of the five-game series on Thursday night at Trustmark Park, with first pitch at 7:00 p.m. . RHP Chance Ruffin (1-0, 3.75) makes the start for Jackson against RHP Gus Schlosser (0-1, 11.81) for Mississippi.
