Suns Give Bravehearts First Loss of 2014

PITTSFIELD, MA (June 11, 2014) - The Pittsfield Suns (4-3) were awarded a 6-4 victory against the Worcester (6-1) and gave the Bravehearts their first loss of the 2014 season Wednesday afternoon. The game was cut short in the eighth inning because of inclement weather.
Students filed into Wahconah Park for the second day of the Suns third annual School Day and were again entertained by the Pittsfield offense that put together a solid offensive performance.
Dan Palazzo started things off in the second inning with a one-out double and would come around to score on a single by Brandon Geary and a Braveheart error, to make it 1-0 Suns.
Pittsfield added to the lead the next inning. After stringing together three singles by Gary Tesch, Edgar Montes and an RBI single from Jeff McGarry (5), Derek Gardella (4) would smack a double to score two additional runs for the Suns for the 4-0 score.
The Bravehearts got on the board in the fourth inning. A one-out walk to Nate Pajka would haunt the Suns, as he later came around to score after an error and a single by Thomas Paine, cutting the Suns lead to 4-1.
The Suns would get that run back, plus one more, in the bottom of the fifth inning after a Worcester pitching substitution put Jordan Versteeg on the mound for Andrew Bergmann. McGarry and Gardella both hit back-to-back singles before Dan Palazzo was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Versteeg then threw two back-to back wild pitches to score McGarry and advance the runners. Pittsfield would score the final run on a sacrifice hit by Geary (3).
The game would be cut short in the top of the eighth due to rain. Pitcher Justin Finan (1-0) earned the win for the Suns, pitching five innings, giving up one run, five hits and two walks while fanning five. Worcester's Andrew Bergmann would get the loss (0-1).
