Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Jacksonville took an early lead and was able to withstand several comeback attempts by the Lookouts in a 4-3 finish at AT&T Field on Sunday evening.

Jacksonville took the early lead in the second inning by plating two runs. Kyle Skipworth began the rally with a single and advanced to second on a subsequent walk to Kyle Jensen. Jeff Dominguez then singled to bring home Skipworth. Jensen advanced to third on the play and eventually scored on a Donnie Webb sacrifice fly.

Chattanooga entered the scoreboard in the bottom of the third. Matt Wallach led off with an infield single and promptly made his way to second on a well-executed sacrifice bunt by Lookouts starting pitcher Ethan Martin. Nick Buss then nailed a single to right to put runners on the corners. A poor pickoff throw by Suns starter Omar Poveda (4-2) ended up getting past first baseman Dominguez, and Wallach opportunistically scampered home.

The Suns produced two more runs in the fifth frame. Dominguez began the inning with a walk and promptly swiped second. Donnie Webb then singled up the middle to bring home Dominguez. Webb advanced to second on the throw home and advanced to third on a subsequent Poveda sacrifice bunt. Danny Black then brought Webb home by hitting a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Lookouts scored their second run of the game in the bottom portion of the fifth on a Luis Nunez sacrifice fly, which was prefaced by a Nick Buss triple.

Down 4-2, the Lookouts attempted to usurp the Suns' lead in the bottom of the sixth. Blake Smith got the inning started with a single. Pedro Baez followed with a walk to put two runners on. After a Kyle Russell strike out, Jake Lemmerman ripped a single to left to score Smith. With runners on first and second and just one out, the Suns made a switch on the mound. The move proved to be the correct one, as reliever Ryan Patterson was able to record two outs to quell the rally.

The Suns bullpen was able to preserve the 4-3 lead, and Evan Reed picked up his tenth save of the season by retiring the Lookouts in the ninth.

The Lookouts will hit the road tomorrow to play a five-game series against the Birmingham Barons but return home on Saturday to play a five-game series against the Jackson Generals. Tickets for these games or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
