BOSSIER CITY, LA - Luke Erickson scored at 4:08 of overtime to give the Arizona Sundogs a 2-1 victory over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in Game 2 of their Berry Conference Opening Round playoff series Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center. The best-of-five series is now tied at one game apiece going into Game 3 Tuesday in Arizona.
Scoring chances were at a premium in the low-scoring affair as the teams combined for 54 shots and just three powerplays between them. Shawn Limpright scored the lone goal for Bossier-Shreveport off an assist from Jeff Kyrzakos in the first period and Ryan Munce made 27 saves in the loss.
The teams combined for just seven shots in the first half of the opening period as chances were limited both ways. The âBugs struck first late in the period on a nice give-and-go play culminating in Jeff Kyrzakos' nifty pass out front that was slammed in by Shawn Limpright to give the home team a 1-0 edge through 20 minutes.
Arizona skated to a 14-8 shot advantage in the second period however and tied the game at one when Patrick Shafer stuffed in a pass from Cam Keith at 5:53 to make it a 1-1 game. That score remained through the rest of the second stanza and all the way through a third period that saw a total of just 13 combined shots between the clubs.
The Sundogs ended the contest just over four minutes into overtime when Erickson skated over the Mudbug blueline and ripped a long wrist shot through a screen and into the top corner over Munce's blocker to give Arizona the win and tie the series at one.
Ryan Munce (1-1) made 27 saves for the second straight night as Arizona skated to a 29-25 shot advantage. Scott Reid (1-1) allowed only one goal and finished with 24 stops in his first win as a member of the Sundogs. The âBugs finished 0 for 2 on the powerplay, while the âDogs were 0 for 1.
The series will now shift west to Prescott Valley, Arizona as the âBugs look to re-take the series lead in Game 3 on Tuesday.
