Sundogs Take 7-6 Shootout Win in Tulsa

TULSA, OK - Shawn Morton-Boutin scored the shootout and game-winner and Luke Erickson added a pair of goals as the Arizona Sundogs outlasted the Tulsa Oilers in a nine-round shootout for a 7-6 win on Tuesday night at the BOK Center.

The Oilers trailed 5-2 midway through the second period before coming back to force overtime. Ryan Cramer's power play goal for Tulsa with 3:21 left in regulation tied the game at 6-6.

Erickson scored a pair of goals for the Sundogs to extend his point streak to seven games, tied for the longest this season by a Sundogs player. Kyle Hood led the Sundogs with a three-point night on a goal and two assists. After signing with the team prior to the game, Samson Mahbod scored a goal and an assist in his first appearance.

Scott Reid stopped 36 shots for the Sundogs to earn the win. After relieving Ian Keserich in the second period, Mike Garman made nine saves and took the loss.

In a losing cause for the Oilers, Mike Ullrich led all skaters with a four-point night including a hat trick in the second period. Jay Sprague scored Tulsa's only shootout goal. Adam Smyth scored for Arizona along with Morton-Boutin.

Arizona opened up a 2-0 lead after the first with goals by Hood and David Nimmo.

In the second, both teams traded goals until Ullrich scored his second and third tallies of the game in the period's final three minutes to close the Sundogs lead to 5-4. Erickson scored his two goals and JP Chabot added another for Arizona in the period. Tulsa also received a power play goal from Dylan Clarke.

Mahbod's tally and Troy Ofukany for Tulsa each scored in the third period before Cramer tied the game late.

The Sundogs finished 1-for-5 on the power play. The Oilers went 3-for-8.

The Sundogs head to N. Richland Hills, TX for a Wednesday night contest against the Brahmas. Game time is set for 6:05 PM MST.
