August 2, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs announced today that the team has signed third-year forward, Jean-Philipp Chabot, for the upcoming 2011-12 Central Hockey League season.
The 23-year-old Chabot (shuh-BAHT) has appeared in 68 games in the ECHL over his first two pro seasons. He tallied a goal and an assist in 10 games for the Bakersfield Condors last year after a rookie campaign in 2009-10 where he scored eight goals and 17 assists for the Charlotte Checkers.
"J.P. is a young, quality, all-around player that we're excited to bring in here," said Head Coach Marco Pietroniro. "He had a terrific career in juniors. He's won championships and he's served as team captain. So the experience is there, the leadership is there, and he's a player that will contribute a lot this season."
Chabot spent five years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) prior to turning pro, two years with the Moncton Wildcats and the final three with the Gatineau Olympiques. The 6-foot-1,196-pound forward appeared in 269 games, scoring 210 points (108 goals, 102 assists) in the QMJHL.
He reached the 30-goal mark in each of his final two seasons in Gatineau (33, 38 goals), and closed his junior career on a high note with a career-best 76 points in 67 games in 2008-09.
During his time with the Olympiques, Chabot was teammates with current NHL player, Claude Giroux, of the Philadelphia Flyers and while in Moncton he skated alongside Phoenix Coyotes defenseman, Keith Yandle.
