January 17, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Central Hockey League hosted its mid-season classic Wednesday night in Bossier City, Louisiana with the Northern Conference skating away with the 9-6 victory in front of 4,910 at the CenturyTel Center. It has been the fourth straight year that the Northern Conference has skated away with All-Star honors. The Arizona Sundogs' Brent Kelly collected two assists for the Southern Conference in his first-ever CHL All-Star Game.
The first period would see both conferences collecting three goals each. Riley Nelson of the Colorado Eagles, Mark Wires of the Rocky Mountain Rage and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs' Dan Wildfong all scored for the Northern Conference while Bobby Chaumont and Adam Rivet of the Laredo Bucks and the Odessa Jackalopes' Mike Rutter tallied goals for the Southern Conference.
The Sundogs' Brent Kelly would see his first of two assists come in the Southern Conference dominated second period. The Laredo Bucks' Chris Korchinksi would give the Southern Conference All-Stars a one goal lead just 26 seconds into the middle frame. Fifteen minutes later, Kelly would feed a pass cross ice to a streaking Justin Quenneville of the Corpus Christi Rayz to give the South All-Stars a two-goal lead. It would seem as though the South would hold the North scoreless in the second but with less than one minute to play in the period the Colorado Eagles' Chris Hartsburg would break the North's second period scoreless streak.
The third period would belong to the Northern Conference as they would tally five goals before the South could respond with a goal of their own. With 11 seconds to play in regulation, Kelly would grab his second assist of the game setting up the Kurtis Dulle to give the Southern Conference their lone goal of the third period. After a blistering third period, the Northern Conference would skate away with the 9-6 victory.
The Sundogs' Kelly finished with two points (2a), two shots and a plus-1 rating. The Northern Conference outshot the Southern Conference 38-35. The game saw no penalties. Kelly will return to his team to take on the Colorado Eagles on Friday, January 19 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado. Game time is set for 7:05pm. Catch the game live on 96.7 FM The Wolf, the Official Broadcast Home of the Arizona Sundogs.
