Saturday Night's Game Two started very similar to Friday's Game One. The Rayz hit two early posts, but could not find the back of the net and Arizona jumped out to an early shot lead and Ron Vogel was terrific. Arizona then broke through to take a 1-0 lead on the power play when Brent Kelly scored his second goal of the postseason at 9:35. The Sundogs nearly took a 1-0 lead minutes later, but Vogel robbed Jon Landry with a brilliant glove save to keep the Rayz within one. Arizona outshot Corpus Christi 12-5 in the first period.
In the second Kelly scored again at 2:24 to give the Sundogs their largest lead of the series at 2-0. The Rayz cut the lead in half when Adam Powell created a turnover at 4:17 of the frame and Kevin Watters fed Matt Turek in the slot, where he beat Mike Wall for his second goal of the post-season. The Sundogs, however, recapture their two goal lead at 11:02 when Cory Stillman scored on a shorthanded break to make the score 3-1 Arizona. The Sundogs outshot the Rayz 11-8 in the middle period.
The Rayz threw everything they had at the Dogs in the third period, but came up just shy. Derrick McIver scored on a bad angle rebound from the bottom of the left circle at 14:24 to bring the Rayz back within one. The Rayz then had a great chance with the netminder pulled in the final minute, but the puck just rolled inches wide and the Sundogs held on for the victory.
Vogel fell to 1-1 on the playoffs saddled with the loss. He made 28 saves on 31 shots. Wall earned the win, making 27 saves on 29 shots and improved to 1-1. The Sundogs outshot the Rayz 31-29. Corpus Christi went 0-7 on the power play and Arizona went 1-7.
Corpus Christi now heads to Arizona for three straight games beginning Wednesday Night at 9:00pm Central Time. If neither team sweeps the trio in Prescott Valley, the Rayz will return to the American Bank Center on Tuesday, April 10th at 7:05pm. Tickets are on sale now and start at just $10. The Rayz are back in the post-season and you can be a part of all the action. Call the Rayz for ticket info at (361) 814-PUCK.
