New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions fought back from three goals down, but were not able to overcome Amarillo in a 6-5 overtime loss. The best-of-seven game series is now tied at one game apiece.

New Mexico came out hard in overtime with eight shots on net, but the Gorillas second shot proved to be the only that lit the lamp. Matt Miller picked up his second goal of the game and gave his team reason to celebrate.

Amarillo came out opposite as they did one night ago. The Gorillas used their special teams en route to a four goal first period. Things got started with Derek Hahn scoring shorthanded.

The Scorpions came back and tied it up on the power play three minutes later. Ryan McLeod tipped in a Vladimir Hartinger shot igniting the Santa Ana Star Center crowd.

The Gorillas power play gave them back the lead. Matt Miller tipped in a Jason Chafe shot at the 15:32 mark. Amarillo extended their lead when a bad bounce off the end boards ended up on the stick of Austin Sutter who had an open net to work with. Back to the power play went Amarillo and Bill Vandermeer sped away from the Scorpions defense and opened up a three-goal lead for the Gorillas.

The Scorpions ruled the second period with three goals within six minutes. Mike Prpich picked up his third goal of the playoffs to start the rally. Jamie Herrington got the Scorps to within one. Two minutes later Jeremy Garrison tied the game up with a rebound goal.

The team traded goals in the third period. Chris Lipsett picked up Amarillo's third power play goal of the night giving Amarillo a short lived lead. The Santa Ana Star Center came back to life when Konrad Reeder's wrist shot tied the game at the 4:57 mark.

The series shifts to the Amarillo Civic Center next week. Game three is on Wednesday. Thursday the teams will match up for game four and Saturday Amarillo hosts game five.
