Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs skated against a fellow Southwest Division club in the Lubbock Cotton Kings for the fourth straight game and needed nine rounds in a shootout to come away with a 2-1 victory. Both clubs would score in the first period and would need a shootout to break the three-plus period tie. Arizona's Jordan Mowbray would push the puck past Lubbock's JF Perras to secure his club's ninth win in their last 13 games.

The Sundogs would grab the early 1-0 lead 6:46 into the contest as defenseman Adam Campbell would tally his first goal of the year from Dmitri Leonov and Chris Greene. Nearly ten minutes would pass before the game would see its last goal in regulation. Lubbock's Bobby Brown would even the score at the 15:14 mark unassisted. Brown's shorthanded goal would be his 19th marker on the season.

The second and third periods would see both teams collect chances to break the 1-1 stalemate but neither would be able to take advantage. The Central Hockey League's second-best power play in Arizona would go 0-for-12 on the night while the Cotton Kings too would be unable to grab a goal with a man advantage, going 0-for-7.

A scoreless overtime period would send the game to a shootout. The shootout would be the second for Arizona in four games. The Sundogs came out on top of a 3-2 shootout victory against New Mexico on Wednesday. Simon Watson and Bobby Brown would score for Lubbock while Karl Sellan and Ryan Steeves would convert for Arizona before Jordan Mowbray would secure the win for the Sundogs.

In just his second game with Arizona, Sundogs netminder Mike Wall stopped 29 of 30 shots to improve to 1-1-0. Cotton Kings goaltender JF Perras deflected 36 of 37 shots in the loss. With the win Arizona improves to 28-26-1 for 57 points and solely moves into second place in the Southwest Division, just three points behind first-place New Mexico. Arizona also takes over fourth place in the Southern Conference playoff race.

The Sundogs remain on the road for three more games before returning home to Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley for a six-game home stand to close out the regular season. Arizona next takes on the Austin Ice Bats on Friday, March 9. Game time is set for 6:30pm (Arizona time) but will be tape delayed until 7:00pm.
