PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - 38 saves by Dan Dunn and a three-goal second period was the difference on Saturday night as the Dayton Gems topped the Arizona Sundogs by a 5-2 final at Tim's Toyota Center.

Bret Lutes power play goal 1:02 into the second period gave the Gems a 2-0 lead. Arizona (17-31-9) answered back with Kyle Hood's deflection in front with 7:18 left in the frame but the Gems (19-25-12) made it a two-goal lead again less than two minutes later on Damian Surma's tally.

Luke Erickson pulled Arizona back with a power play goal from the left circle, but the Gems extended their lead against when Matthew Larke finished off a 2-on-1 rush with 1:23 remaining in the second period.

Dayton's Nick Fanto opened up the scoring late in the first period. Larke added an empty-net goal in the final minute to seal the final score.
