Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Arizona Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro announced today the team has acquired rookie goaltender Bobby Jarosz from the Missouri Mavericks in exchange for future considerations.
Jarosz, 23, comes to the Sundogs after recently completing his collegiate career at Michigan State University (NCAA). The 6-foot, 172-pound netminder appeared in 12 games during the 2009-10 season, finishing with one shutout, a 4-3-1 record, 2.34 goals against average (GAA) and a .919 save percentage (SV%).
"Bobby is a young goaltender that is very capable of stopping the puck," said Pietroniro. "Despite seeing limited playing time, Bobby is an opportunistic player who has performed well while in net. We're pleased to add him to our roster for the upcoming 2010-11 season."
After closing out his amateur playing career, the Crystal Lake, Illinois, native appeared in one game with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers, turning aside 21 of 22 shots for his first professional victory.
Prior to suiting up for the Michigan State Spartans, Jarosz skated for two seasons for the North American Hockey League's (NAHL) Cleveland Barons, leading the junior club to a division title in 2006 with a 19-10-0 mark. During the 2005-06 season, Jarosz finished eighth among NAHL backstops with a 2.45 GAA and tied for ninth with a .917 SV%. He set the Barons' record for shutouts in a season and finished second in the league with six scoreless outings.
Additionally, the Sundogs have announced that Rob Lehtinen has accepted a Coordinator of Hockey Operations position with alma mater Northern Michigan University and will not skate with the Sundogs during the 2010-11 season.
Appearing in 188 regular season contests over three seasons with Arizona, Lehtinen recorded 24 goals, 43 assists and 117 penalty minutes (PIM) skating as both a forward and defenseman.
The Marquette, Michigan, native added three goals and eight PIM in 17 playoff appearances en route to the Ray Miron President's Cup title in 2008 and set career highs in goals (12), assists (19) and points (31) during the 2008-09 season.
"Rob has been a consummate professional for us both on and off the ice during his three seasons in Arizona," added Pietroniro. "We're excited for him to take this next step in his career and we wish him all the best in his new role with Northern Michigan University."
With the addition of Jarosz, the Sundogs' 2010-11 roster now sits at 16. Players under contract for the upcoming season include goaltender Doug Groenestege, forwards Joey Sides, Adam Smyth, Chase Watson, Steve Kaye, Jason Visser, J.C. Robitaille, Jason Williams, Pierre-Luc Sleigher and Cam Keith, and defensemen Tyler Butler, Mike Novosad, Mike Nesdill, Clayton Barthel and Billy Bezeau.
The Sundogs will celebrate their fifth season in the Central Hockey League beginning this October at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. Season ticket packages are available for as low as $295. For more information call (928) 759-6600 or visit www.arizonasundogs.com.
