Strong Island Sound News Release
Rockville, MD- In front of a packed house at Montgomery County, the Maryland Nighthawks defeated the Strong Island Sound, 115-110. It was the debut of 7'9" center Sun Ming Ming, who scored eight points, and had four rebounds and three blocked shots in just over twenty minutes of action.
Maryland (12-10) took the lead in the third quarter and held on in the fourth, as Strong Island turned a six point deficit into a two point lead with 3:17 left. Randy "White Chocolate" Gill made his sixth three-point shot of the game to get the lead back for the 'Hawks with only 33 seconds left. Andrew "Spongebob" Washington (32 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists) then converted four free throws in the final 11 seconds to wrap up the victory for the Nighthawks and send the 1,800 fans home happy.
Raphael Edwards scored 28 points and 6 rebounds for the Sound (13-11). Greg Plummer added 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Miguel Milliem had 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
