Winston-Salem Dash News Release
Myrtle Beach, SC - Myrtle Beach starting pitcher Richard Sullivan tossed a complete game shutout in leading the Pelicans to a 6-0 win over Winston-Salem on Wednesday morning at BB&T Coastal Field. Sullivan (2-1) limited the Dash to three hits and registered a season-high nine strikeouts while recording the first complete game shutout of his career. It was also the first time Winston-Salem has been held without a run this season.
Myrtle Beach's offense was in full swing early as they plated a pair of runs off Dash starting pitcher Levi Maxwell in the first inning. Cody Johnson contributed an RBI ground out and Donell Linares added a run-scoring double to give the Pelicans a 2-0 lead.
Myrtle Beach added three more runs in the second inning as CJ Lee lined a two-run triple and Cole Miles followed with an RBI single to extend the Pelicans advantage to 5-0. They would added another in the seventh inning when Dash shortstop Greg Paiml made a fielding and throwing error on the same play that allowed Robert Marcial to score from second base.
Maxwell (0-8) suffered his eighth consecutive loss after surrendering five runs on nine hits in six innings of work. He allowed all five runs to score in the first two innings before tossing four straight scoreless innings to finalize his outing while striking out a season-high five batters.
These two teams will conclude this three-game series on Thursday night at BB&T Coastal Field. The Dash will hand the ball to RHP Johnnie Lowe (2-1, 5.11), while the Pelicans are expected to start LHP Cole Rohrbough (2-1, 2.00). The first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The next home game for Winston-Salem is Friday, May 29 at 7 p.m. against the Kinston Indians. It is also the opener of a ten-game home stand for the Dash at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Single-game tickets are also available for games at Wake Forest Baseball Park through June 17 and can be purchased online at www.wsdash.com or by calling the Dash office at (336) 714-2287.
