January 30, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sarnia Sting News Release

Ahead of Saturday's game in Flint, Head Coach, Derian Hatcher and his staff have named Sam Studnicka Captain of the Sarnia Sting.

Studnicka will join the current leadership group of Assistant Captains, Jakob Chychrun, Josh Jacobs, Brandon Lindberg, Pavel Zacha and Alex Black.

The overage centreman joined the Sting earlier this month after spending three seasons with the Ottawa 67's. Before being dealt, Studnicka was an Assistant Captain with the 67's and played a big role in their leadership core. The Windsor-native has played a team-high 238 career OHL games; split between the Windsor Spitfires, the Ottawa 67's, and now the Sarnia Sting. Thus far this season, Studnicka has registered a career-high 18 goals and is 6th overall in the league with a 60.3% faceoff percentage.

Head Coach, Derian Hatcher comments on today's announcement, "Sam has been a great addition to our locker room since coming over at the deadline. He shows up to the rink with the right attitude, and you know what you're going to get out of him every night. He will be a big piece of the puzzle for us down the stretch."

Newly appointed Captain, Sam Studnicka and the Sarnia Sting will play the second game of a home-and-home in Flint tonight. The Sting are just 7 points back of Windsor (with 2 games in hand) for the West Division lead. The Sting and Spits are slated to faceoff on Sunday afternoon (1PM) in Game 1 of Cogeco's Hockey Day in the OHL.
