Windsor Spitfires News Release
(Windsor, ON) - After honouring franchise all-time great Ryan Ellis, the Spitfires put a beating on their fiercest rivals, downing the London Knights 8-3 in front of a sold out crowd of 6,504 at the WFCU Centre Saturday night.
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Logan Stanley (3:21), Hayden McCool (7:23), Bradley Latour (13:24) and Logan Brown (14:49) helped Windsor (30-13-5-0) build a comfortable 4-0 lead in the second period, blitzing goalie Tyler Parsons (31 saves) in a decisive 11-minute span of the game.
Latour scored another pair of goals in the third period, giving the 20-year-old left winger his first OHL hat-trick, while Stanley's power play marker at 14:12 of the final frame gave the big defenceman his first multi-goal game.
At the other end, the Spitfires got great goaltending from Mario Culina, who made 30 saves on the way to his fourth win of the season.
Brendan Lemieux added a pair of assists in the winning cause.
Mitchell Marner (28), Max Jones (21) and Chris Martenet (2) had the goals for London (34-10-2-1), which suffered just its 10th regulation loss of the season.
The Spitfires are right back at it on home ice Sunday afternoon, as they host West Division rival Sarnia in a special 1pm start at the WFCU Centre.
