Strong Start From Allen Leads To Win Over Roughnecks

MIDLAND, TX.: In a key divisional match-up at the Ector County Coliseum on Saturday evening (May 14), the West Texas Roughnecks could not overcome a strong start from the Allen Wranglers as the Wranglers defeated the Roughnecks, 54-26. The Wranglers got out to a 41-0 lead in the first half before the Roughnecks got on the scoreboard with a four-yard touchdown run from RB DeWayne Hogan. Roughnecks starting QB Arkelon Hall would leave the game early with an injury as he was replaced by WR/QB Josh Floyd who recorded three total touchdowns in the second-half including two touchdown passes to WR Tim Bush.

The Wranglers would start out with a 20-0 lead in the first quarter as QB Kewan Dewberry recorded three touchdown passes with two going to WR Robert Chase. Offensively, the Roughnecks had two Zeke Arevalo field goal attempts blocked in the first quarter.

The Wranglers tacked on 21 points in the second quarter with two touchdown passes from Kewan Dewberry, one to WR Robert Chase and a 23-yard touchdown pass to WR Dedrick Poole. Wranglers defensive back Frankie Solomon, Jr. would intercept Roughnecks QB Arkelon Hall on the next series returning it 15 yards for a touchdown to make it 41-0 Allen. Following the play, Roughnecks QB Arkelon Hall left the game with an injury as WR/QB Josh Floyd would take over at quarterback. The Roughnecks would close out the first half by narrowing the deficit to 41-6 as RB DeWayne Hogan posted a four-yard touchdown run.

The Roughnecks struck first to begin the second-half as WR/QB Josh Floyd scrambled for a 28-yard touchdown run to narrow the Allen lead to 41-13 in the third quarter. Following two field goals made by Wranglers kicker Garrett Courtney (17 & 34 yards), Josh Floyd would complete a 15-yard touchdown pass to Roughnecks WR Tim Bush to cut the Allen lead to 47-20. The Wranglers would tack one more score in the fourth quarter with a five-yard touchdown run from Mike Ward making it 54-20. The Roughnecks would close out the game with a late touchdown as Josh Floyd once again found WR Tim Bush for a 31-yard touchdown pass to make it 54-26.

The West Texas Roughnecks (7-3) continue their home stretch as they host the Wichita Wild next week on Saturday, May 21 at the Ector County Coliseum. The Allen Wranglers (8-3) will return home next week to host the Amarillo Venom on Saturday, May 21.
